Telephone harassment is defined as repeated harassing telephone calls from a previous caller that continue after a person has repeatedly asked them to stop. The person receiving the phone calls often has no idea they are being harassed and the harassing calls may last for hours or even days. Some of the tactics used by the harassers can be nothing more than a nuisance, such as loudly speaking or chirping noises on the phone. Other calls involve more abusive behavior, such as threats, name calling, vulgarity, and name calling. In some cases, the harasser will play strange or even frightening music, as well as pictures or noises to heighten the discomfort felt by the victim.
